Adriaen van de Velde

He didn't want to paint ships like his father, the marine painter Willem van de Velde the Elder. So Adriaen moved to Haarlem and studied with the landscape painter Jan Wynants. There he met Philip Wouwerman and Paulus Potter, two animal painters who had an important influence on his work. He worked in Amsterdam from 1657, painting meadows and Italianate views with herdsmen and cattle, and he often added the animals to other artists' landscapes. He died in 1672, and the auction of his possessions and works didn't cover his debts. Browse 121 works by Adriaen van de Velde from 31 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
