About this work

Skittle-players, a painting by József Rippl-Rónai dated 1892, shows several men in heavy coats seen from behind on a pale, snowy ground. Rolled balls lie scattered across the foreground while figures in the background wait or prepare their throws beneath bare wooden framing. The muted palette of greens, browns and cream gives the scene a quiet, wintry atmosphere.
