About this work

An abstract painting built from a grid of horizontal and vertical bars in red, yellow, blue, and black over an off-white ground. Several strips appear to be masking-tape guides, and some bars are only partly painted, consistent with the title New York City 2 (unfinished) by Piet Mondrian, dated 1941 and held by the Sidney Janis Gallery.
