About this work

A tavern interior shows a group of figures gathered around a table covered with a red patterned cloth, playing cards and holding coins. A seated young man in a red sleeve and blue-grey hose holds a stoneware jug, while a woman in a blue striped dress watches the cards, and a woman in a black gown with a white lace collar holds a hand of cards at the right. The painting is attributed to Theodoor Rombouts, dated 1635, and is held by the National Museum in Warsaw.
