An expressive still life in thick, agitated brushstrokes shows a green-topped table holding a draped red and white cloth, a white pitcher, a dark bottle, and a covered dish against a dark green ground. A raw, pale meat carcass hangs at the right edge, its flesh rendered in vivid reds and creams. Chaïm Soutine's The Table, painted in 1923, is held in the Jean Walter-Paul Guillaume Collection.
