About this work

A bearded man in an orange robe lies asleep on the ground beneath a flowering grapevine trained over a wooden frame. Around him lie cabbages, a fish, a copper vessel, a wooden barrel and a basket of grapes, with a ruined brick building behind. Jan Baptist Weenix painted this work in 1642, and it is held by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
