About this work

The painting shows a Gothic pointed archway framing a cloister courtyard, where several workmen in period clothing are shaping stone blocks amid scattered rubble, tools, and a wooden plank. A worker with a long-handled tool stands in the distant courtyard beside a stone block, and a Gothic window and chapel building are visible beyond the arch. The work is titled Port of the Cloister of the Liebfrauenkirche in Halberstadt, by Carl Hasenpflug, dated 1840.
