About this work

An oil painting presents a highly detailed, idealized view of the Gothic twin-spired facade of Cologne Cathedral across an open plaza filled with small figures in period dress. The cathedral's pale stone front and tall pinnacled towers dominate the composition under a lavender and cream sky, with a distant church silhouette visible at left. Carl Hasenpflug painted this work in 1830, and it is held by Cologne's Municipal Museum.
