About this work

A grisaille composition shows a young man in a short white tunic and dark mantle extending his arm toward a draped woman who holds a flaming torch, set before classical columns and steps. A group of onlookers gathers at left and a small putto appears near the woman's skirts, while figures in the lower right foreground look on. The work is a painting by Ambroise Dubois, dated 1609, held by the Department of Paintings of the Louvre.
