About this work

The painting shows a girl in a grey dress holding small items in her cupped hands while a boy in a red tunic and white hose offers her a berry from a tree-lined woodland clearing. A figure in the background bends over among the undergrowth, and sunlight falls through the slender trunks. This is Millais's 1851 painting The Woodman's Daughter, held by the Guildhall Art Gallery.
