About this work

A standing allegorical figure in a yellow, pink and green costume holds a white falcon on a gloved hand, while a kneeling hunter in green feeds a bird beside a satchel. Dead game birds lie on the ground at the base of the composition, and a gilded plaque with the inscription AUCUPIUM is framed by garlands at the top. The painting is dated 1613 and attributed to Peter Candid.
