A busy harbor scene shows tall masted ships moored along a sunlit quay, with dockworkers loading and unloading bales and barrels while well-dressed men converse in the foreground. Rowing boats cross the bay toward distant hills, and a statue on a pedestal stands at the right edge of the waterfront. This view of the Port of Messina, from the Palazzo del Senato, was painted by Jacob Philipp Hackert in 1791 and is held by the Museo Nazionale di San Martino.
