About this work
This panel from Duccio di Buoninsegna's Maestà altarpiece, dated 1308 and held by the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, shows two scenes stacked vertically. The upper scene depicts a group of robed men gathered beneath an arcaded structure, with one figure reaching out to exchange something with another. The lower scene shows a seated Christ in a dark mantle facing a circle of haloed apostles in red, green and grey garments within a interior.
