Ivan Aivazovsky's painting Sveaborg, dated 1844, shows a choppy sea in the foreground with a two-masted sailing ship under yellow sails and a steamship with smoke rising from its funnel. Behind them a fortified waterfront with stone walls and a church-like tower stretches across the horizon beneath a broken sky of pale clouds and darker storm clouds at left. The work is held by the Central Naval Museum.
