About this work
A woman in a dark dress and black hat sits in a wooden chair, reading a small book with a rosary draped over her gloved hands. Candlelit altars and stained glass windows fill the dim church interior behind her. Jean Béraud painted this work, titled Femme en prière, in 1885, and it is held by the Musée Carnavalet.
