About this work

A procession of elegantly dressed women and men in fitted tunics and flowing gowns moves across a grassy landscape toward a colonnaded classical building with a checkered floor and a central pedestal. Hills, dense trees, and a distant hilltop town fill the background, and a small dog walks in the foreground. This painting, The Abduction of Helen and her Companions, was made by the Master of the Stories of Helen in 1445 and is held by the Walters Art Museum.
