About this work

The painting shows a shirtless young man seated on a canopied bed with red drapery, reaching toward a richly dressed woman in a gold-trimmed gown who holds a small dish and gestures outward. A figure in dark clothing and a man in a white turban appear through an arched doorway at right. The room features Gothic architectural details, a gilded bench, a wall clock, and a patterned tiled floor. This is Amnon Attacking Tamar by Jan van Dornicke, dated 1520, in the Walters Art Museum.
