About this work
A watercolor study shows a whole pear with a red stem and a cut half revealing cream-colored flesh and dark seeds, both rendered in soft yellow-green and brown tones. The sheet carries handwritten labels identifying the variety as President Drouard, sent from L. D. Creel in Angola, Steuben Co. Indiana, and dated 1899. The work is attributed to Bertha Heiges and is held in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
