About this work
This watercolor from the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection shows a whole orange above a cross-section of the same fruit below, each set on a plain white ground. The whole fruit displays a pitted, textured peel and a small green stem end, while the cut half reveals radiating segments and a pale central core. The work is attributed to Royal Charles Steadman and dated 1931.
