About this work
A watercolor study shows a whole navel orange above a halved specimen revealing its segmented pulp and central core. The fruit is rendered with soft shading on a pale background, and handwritten notes in the lower corners record the specimen details. The painting is catalogued as Navel (Citrus sinensis) by Mary Daisy Arnold, dated 1914, from the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
