About this work
This watercolor shows a whole orange with a small green leaf cluster at its stem and a cut half revealing its segmented pulp and central core. Soft shadows beneath each fruit ground them on the pale paper. The work is catalogued as Golden Nugget (Citrus sinensis), painted by Ellen Isham Schutt in 1908 and held in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
