About this work
A watercolor botanical study by Royal Charles Steadman, dated 1920, shows two views of a Wase Satsuma (Citrus unshiu) fruit, one with the stem end visible and one rotated to show the base. The fruit is rendered in yellow-orange tones with fine speckled texture and a slightly flattened shape. Handwritten labels beneath the paintings give the variety name, the Japanese locality, and the catalogue number.
