About this work
This pomological watercolor depicts two varieties of cherries, each shown whole and halved to reveal the pale pit inside, with green stems and the fruit's glossy red skin rendered in careful detail. Handwritten labels list catalogue numbers, the variety names "Hortensia" and "Sklanka," and the origin "T. T. Lyon, South Haven, Van Buren Co. Mich." The work is attributed to Deborah Griscom Passmore and dated 1897 in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
