About this work

This pomological watercolor from 1897 by Deborah Griscom Passmore shows four cherries arranged in two rows, with whole and halved fruits. The upper pair is deep red with a dark, glossy skin and a pale pit, while the lower pair shows a red-blushed yellow skin and a yellowish flesh around the pit. Each fruit is drawn on a long green stem with a small brown tip, and handwritten labels identify the varieties Windsor and Spanish.
