About this work
A watercolor study of a single dark green, pear-shaped avocado with a small stem at the top and reddish speckles across its skin, casting a soft shadow on a pale ground. The sheet bears handwritten inscriptions giving the catalogue number 88450, the variety name Blakeman, the grower Edward W. Slickey of Hollywood, California, and the artist's initials and dates in 1916.
