About this work
A watercolor botanical study shows a halved papaya with bright orange-yellow skin, pale green rind at the stem end, and a central cavity of cream-colored flesh with visible seed texture. The painting is catalogued in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection, attributed to Amanda Almira Newton, and dated 1906. The fruit is rendered on a cream paper mount with a thin border and a soft cast shadow beneath it.
