About this work
A watercolor on cream paper shows two strawberries, one whole with its green calyx and stem and one cut in half to reveal the pale interior and central core. The handwritten inscription on the sheet names the variety Gandy from G. M. Donaldson of Georgetown, D.C. and is signed B. Heiges, dated 1897. The work is a pomological study recording the fruit's exterior and cross-section.
