About this work

This watercolor from the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection shows three botanical studies of a pale pink blossom and two developing fruit buds, one of them cut in section to reveal its inner structure. The work is attributed to J. Marion Shull and dated 1913. Fine pencil and brush detail render the stamens, styles, and green sepals against a plain cream ground.
