About this work
A watercolor study by William Henry Prestele, dated 1894, shows a whole red apple with a long stem beneath a sliced apple revealing pale flesh, dark seeds, and a green calyx. The sheet carries a handwritten label with an inventory number, the variety name "Jusealoosa," a grower credit to J. J. Blackwell & Son of Titusville, Mercer Co. and the artist's signature and date. The record is from the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
