About this work
A watercolor pomological study shows a whole apple with a yellow-green skin blushed with red near the stem, alongside a cut half revealing pale flesh, a central core and dark seeds. The handwritten label identifies the variety as 'Washington Royal' (syn. Palmer Greening), from O.B. Hadwen of Worcester, Worcester Co. Mass. The work is attributed to Bertha Heiges and dated 1896.
