About this work
A watercolor study shows a whole red apple with a visible stem above and a halved apple below, revealing its cream-colored flesh and dark seeds. The handwritten inscription identifies the variety as Summer Champion, grown by John J. Stinson in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with the artist Deborah Griscom Passmore and a date of 1897 noted on the sheet.
