About this work
A watercolor study shows an apple sliced in half vertically, revealing pale flesh, a green core, and a single brown seed in each chamber, with the stem rising from the top. The fruit is rendered with a faint red blush along the left edge and green tones near the calyx at the base. The work is mounted on a gray card and is attributed to Louis Charles Christopher Krieger in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
