About this work
A watercolor study by Bertha Heiges, dated 1898, shows a red apple with speckled skin and a stem, above a cut-open half revealing white flesh, a core with dark seeds, and a stem end. Handwritten inscriptions in the lower left identify the variety as Red June, from J. S. Holmes, Bowman's Bluff, Henderson County, N.C.
