About this work
A watercolor study by Bertha Heiges, dated 1905, shows a red-striped apple above a cut half revealing its pale flesh, core, and seeds. Handwritten annotations on the sheet identify the variety as Priestly, with the source listed as S. B. Brackett, St. Louis Exposition, and a note asks that the stripes be a darker purple.
