About this work

A watercolor botanical study shows a whole yellow apple with a soft blush and a cut half revealing pale flesh and dark seeds, both with cast shadows on a cream background. The sheet carries the handwritten label "Peron" with the number 16944 and the note that the specimen was collected by Dr. Edward Palmer in the market of Saltillo, Mexico, dated 11/30/98. The work is attributed to Deborah Griscom Passmore and dated 1898 in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
