About this work

A grey wash drawing shows calm water with several sailing vessels, including a large ship on the left and a broad-hulled boat in the foreground. In the lower right, sailors work near the hull, one bending over a tool and another tending a pot on a stand, consistent with tarring a ship. The work is attributed to Cornelis Thim and held by the Städel Museum.
