About this work
A grey ink and wash drawing with two framed scenes stacked vertically. The upper scene shows a broken stone ruin with gothic window openings beside a road where figures and a dog walk, while the lower scene shows a stone sluice with a horse-drawn cart crossing its bridge, a rowing boat on the water and a timber-framed farmhouse at right. The work is by Jan de Beijer, dated 1732, and is held by the Städel Museum.
