About this work

A pencil drawing shows a dirt path winding through a rural village, passing a cottage with two windows and a large tree whose branches arch over the scene. Wooden fences and a rough stone staircase lead up the bank, with a distant house and trees on the right. The sketch is inscribed with the date 19 September 1845 in the lower right.
