About this work
A pen and watercolor drawing shows a mounted commander in a plumed hat and gold-trimmed sash gesturing amid a battlefield strewn with fallen soldiers and weapons. Behind him, cannon and massed troops with pikes fill the hazy landscape under a heavy sky.
