About this work
A pencil drawing on pale paper shows a half-length figure of a man turned to the right, with one arm raised to his head and a loose garment falling from the shoulders. The face, with its heavy beard and downward gaze, is rendered with more detail than the softly sketched body. This study by Otto Scholderer dates from 1879 and is held by the Städel Museum.
