About this work
A pale watercolor and pen drawing shows a broad river lined with a small village of brick and thatched houses, with a church spire rising behind the trees. Several rowing boats and sailing vessels move across the calm water, and birds fly through the large clouded sky. The work is a drawing by Nicolaas Wicart held by the Städel Museum.
