About this work

A watercolor drawing shows a crowded village square with townspeople gathered around a barrel and a white sheep decorated with flowers, apparently part of a lottery for the animal. Figures dance and celebrate beneath a large tree, while spectators look from the windows of a half-timbered house and a tall maypole stands at right. Anton Radl painted this scene in 1802, and it is held by the Städel Museum.
