About this work
A pale sepia wash drawing shows a panoramic view of Florence seen from a wooded hillside, with a large domed cathedral and several slender towers rising above the rooftops. Trees frame the foreground and a winding path curves toward the city. This drawing by Ernst Fries is dated 1825 and held by the Städel Museum.
