About this work

The plate shows three ornamental relief designs arranged vertically against a dark ground, each in a different outline shape. The upper panel has a central rectangular cartouche framed by scrolls and foliage, the middle panel an oval medallion flanked by leafy tendrils, and the lower panel a shell-like motif surrounded by curling acanthus. This photographic reproduction from 1875 by Ch. Claesen Éditeur documents sculpted decorative work by Jean Herman.
