About this work
A muscular nude Hercules raises his arms and grips a chain while struggling with the giant Cacus at the bottom of the composition. Cattle, skulls, and bones lie in the rocky cave, and figures peer from the upper left and right. This 1588 print by Hendrick Goltzius is held by the Rijksmuseum.
