A bust-length portrait of an older man with a moustache and pointed beard, turned three-quarters to the left against a dark background. The monochrome tonal rendering and inscriptions at the top and bottom identify the sitter as R. W. P. de Vries, secretary of the Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap, and the year 1901 with his age of 60. The work is a print by Jan Veth.
