About this work
A muscular nude Hercules lifts his arms high while grappling with a fallen, writhing figure at his feet, as a serpent-like creature coils around his leg. Cattle and figures crowd the cave at upper right, and bones lie scattered in the foreground. This 1588 print by Hendrick Goltzius is held by the Rijksmuseum.
