About this work
The sheet shows two versions of a circular bookplate for J. Kouwer, a shipbuilding engineer, with a triangle containing the inscription. The lower version is inked in black and grey with stylized fish or dolphin forms in the corners and below, while the upper version is a faint pencil study with a rough sketch of a hull or basket-like shape. A handwritten blue note on the right reads as a remark about the design.
