About this work
A standing bay horse is shown in profile, wearing a braided bridle and resting on a dark saddle cloth with a white emblem over pale grassy ground. The muscular body and polished coat are rendered in warm browns against a soft, muted background. Titled Persimmon, the oil painting is signed by Edwin Douglas and dated 1897, held in the Royal Collection.
