This oil painting shows a half-length portrait of a man wearing a tall feathered headdress with a striped band, a layered beaded necklace with blue and black beads, and a draped tan cloth over one shoulder. The soft neutral background focuses attention on his direct, sidelong gaze. The work is titled John kabua Silos, painted by Rudolf Swoboda in 1886 and held by the Royal Collection.
